It's not enough for New Jersey just to have a few haunted houses, the entire Pine Barrens region named among the most haunted places in America.

The site Conde Nast listed the 30 most haunted places in America. Among them, Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia and the Stanley Hotel in Colorado (the hotel from The Shining.

New Jersey made the list. but not for a particular building. We made it for an entire region. That's right. We have 1.1 million acres of haunted right here in the Garden State. That's about 20% of New Jersey's land mass, according to Visit NJ.

So, I would venture to say that this has to be one of the largest "haunted" areas in the world. Hey, New Jersey, congratulations to us.

So, what's the deal with hauntedness (is that a word?) of the Pine Barrens? Of course, a great deal of it comes from the 250 years of Jersey Devil stories, and no, we're not talking about the guys on skates that play at the Prudential Center.

We're talking about the legend of the 13th child of Mrs. Leeds who has been haunting the area for two and a half centuries, according to Pinelands Alliance.  The article also states that the Jersey Devil has been spotted in about 50 different towns.

And there are still reports of Jersey Devil sightings on the Garden State Parkway as well as the Atlantic City Expressway. I don't know about you, but I'm afraid not to believe in it. I feel like if I say it's nonsense, I might get a visit. And I don't want a visit.

Let us know if you have had any weird experiences here in the Garden State.
